Whistler Community Foundation presents Stay at Home Gala Whistler

National and local acts take virtual stage to raise urgently needed funds

For Immediate Release – Whistler, BC on April 23, 2020

A one-of-a-kind Stay At Home Gala will be hosted online on Saturday, May 2nd from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Guests will join thousands of Canadians across the country for a virtual gala with all the traditional elements of a fabulous fundraiser: dinner (homemade or choose from one of our valued food partners), game-changing speakers, musicians, and much more.

The national Stay at Home Gala will feature six-time Olympian and ER doctor in training, Hayley Wickenheiser, as keynote. Seven World Championships; Six Olympic appearances; Five Olympic medals; Four Olympic Gold medals – Hayley Wickenheiser is a titan of sport and a leader both on and off the ice. Ms. Wickenheiser’s passion for sport is equally matched by her desire to give back to the community through her work with dozens of philanthropic organizations including Lace ‘Em Up, Jumpstart, KidSport and Project North and Right to Play.

Wickenheiser will join game-changing speakers like André Picard, Canada’s top health and public policy observer and commentator and music and entertainment from Canadian artists such as Juno Award and Polaris Prize-nominated singer Tanika Charles. Next up, local artists close the Whistler show with the musical talents of Rebel Appliance, Jenna Mae, Ev Kinsella, Rachel Lewis, and Monty Biggins

First $15,000 matched by Whistler Blackcomb Foundation

Uniting people from across the nation with the aim to raise urgently needed funds to support community members most affected by Covid-19 is the driver of this live cross-country gala. Your gala ticket includes a night to remember, a tax deductible receipt and a link to Stay at Home Gala Whistler’s live broadcast of national and regional acts. And, Whistler Blackcomb Foundation will be matching the first $15,000 raised, so early ticket buyers can feel confident knowing their donation will be doubled.

Whistler Community Foundation saw the Stay at Home Gala as a great way to connect with our community and further our fundraising work now that our regular events are on hold. Ticket sales and donations come right back to our community through the WCF’s Emergency Fund in Response to Covid 19 to support groups like the WCSS Food Bank and Howe Sound Women’s Centre.

Mo Douglas from Arts Whistler, a key partner in securing the fantastic lineup of local musicians, will host Whistler’s half of the show. Guests are encouraged to to dress up, log on, and dine together for the Stay at Home Gala. Community staple Sushi Village is Whistler’s title sponsor, and we’re pleased to announce they will be serving up takeout alongside other food partners like ABC EatsLa Cantina and Pemberton’s Town Square.

While COVID-19 is challenging community norms, it won’t ever change our community’s generosity and willingness to help one another.
