Caring Community Grants stream grows after community accepted calls for contributions to the Whistler and Pemberton Community Funds during Whistler Community Foundation’s 25th year
Media Release – April 3, 2025
In 2024, Whistler Community Foundation added $356K to the endowment funds that support the Caring Community Grants by way of investment and donations. This increased the share of grants to charities with a social purpose. The Environmental Legacy Fund remains the largest contributor to granting, however Caring Community Grants is seeing the growth Whistler Community Foundation has been seeking.
“Charities need resources to sustain their programming. Whether it’s a direct program where people can immediately see need and impact, or it’s programming that has longer term implications on wellbeing like the Living Gifts grant proposed by Lil’wat7ul or the anti-racism training grant for Whistler Adaptive.”
Whistler Community Foundation’s grants committees are reading charity applications that recognize that their issues intersect broader issues. For example, many applications highlighted inclusion, care, or belonging as a need within their organization or for the communities they serve.
Grant applications answered the three Vital Signs questions:
- Is everyone thriving?
- Is our community livable?
- Do we have a sustainable future?
This is a sign that Vital Signs has proven useful to the charities that WCF serves in that they can see the data right in front of them, or they can show up to a Vital Conversation, sit with the community, and hear what they need.
“In 2024, we surpassed $5 million in grants. And we are committed to resourcing care for both people and planet for the long-term through the endowment model,” said Claire Mozes. “We encourage folks who are in a stable position to support local charities, either through endowment or direct.”
Community Foundations offer a unique way to support community through endowment funds. The Whistler, Pemberton and Mount Currie areas host incredible nonprofits and charities with the passion to fill their missions.
Contributing to an endowment offers the opportunity to support community-led initiatives. More specifically, the Community Funds, of Whistler and Pemberton, are truly community-driven and play a leading role in granting unrestricted resources to local charities.
